Maggie Grace was born Margaret Grace Denig, September 21, 1983. She is an American Actress best known as Shannon Rutherford in ABC TV series Lost. Born in Worthington Ohio she dropped out of high school to move into Los Angeles with her mother when her parents separated. It was a struggle to make ends meet and was offered her first acting role in the film Rachel's Room's lead character. The film for television Murder in Greenwich that she appeared in, where she played a 15-year-old Martha Moxley earned her the nomination for a Young Artist Award. In 2004, Grace was cast as Shannon Rutherford in the television series Lost in which she was the main cast member for the first two seasons. She was also awarded an Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the ensemble cast. The show ended in 2005 and Grace was keen to work as a film actress, and had been cast as the opposite of Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. The actress starred as a character in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club in both 2007 and Taken (2008) alongside Liam Neeson. She reprised this role in Taken 2 (2013) and Taken 3 (2015). She also played Alice as Alice in Malice in Wonderland which is a modern adaptation from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace played the role of Shannon in two episodes of Lost which included the finale of the series. In 2013, Grace appears in Californianation, the sixth Season. She portrays Faith who is both a star-gazer and the girl in the group. Hank Moody, played by David Duchovny, falls for her. A member of the Gyllenhaal clan, she is the daughter of film makers Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Achs as well as the elder cousin of the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She began her career in the teen years with minor roles in several of her father's films and appeared with her brother in the famous cult classic Donnie Darko (2001). She then appeared as a character in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well as Mona Lisa Smile (both 2002). Gyllenhaal received nominations for the Golden Globe Award in both the drama Sherrybaby (2005) and the romance comedy Secretary (2002). Both films received acclaim from critics. Following several commercially-successful films, including World Trade Center in 2006 her name was recognized more widely when she played Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). The year 2009 was the time she was nominated as the Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her portrayal of a single mom as she appeared in Crazy Heart. After that she was able to star in comedies as well as dramas such Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011), and The Won't Back Down (12). Apart from her character as an agent of the Secret Service agent, she has also appeared in White House Down (2013) and Frank (2014). One of her most recent roles were her character as the primary protagonist of the film The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal's first film as a writer and director was in 2021 with The Lost Daughter, a psychological drama that won her the Venice International Film Festival Best Screenplay Award. She also was awarded an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
